GMYN had a fantastic evening celebrating the achievements of care leavers across Greater Manchester at last week’s Greater Manchester Care Leavers Awards. It was an evening of celebration and enjoyment.

The Awards took place on Thursday 18th October at RNCM, and was organised by Greater Manchester Higher, a collaboration of universities and further education colleges from across Greater Manchester, who are working together to provide high quality outreach activities for local schools and colleges.

GMYN were honoured to sponsor an award again this year. GMYN staff member Euan Davies, Programme Co-ordinator for a programme with care leavers in Salford, introduced a podcast that young people on GMYN programmes have been working on recently about what they find inspiring. The full podcast is to be released during Care Leavers Week, which begins today.

Euan then went on present the new award for Group Projects.

22 young people on GMYN programmes were nominated for an award in categories such as ‘Community and Volunteering’, ‘Group Project’, ‘Creativity’, ‘Further Education’, ‘Positive Action’ and ‘World of Work’.

Two staff members from GMYN, Euan Davies and Katie Charlton, were nominated for the ‘Key Influencer’ award for their contribution to care leavers across Greater Manchester.

It was an inspirational evening and GMYN would like to say well done to all young people involved.

Throughout National Care Leavers’ Week, we’ll be celebrating the achievements of care experienced young people we work with and sharing snapshots from our care experienced team, using the hashtag #CareLeaversCan on Twitter.
